Summary of Submission Steps

Step One: Login

Please use your ASM eStore login credentials. If you forgot your username/password or to confirm that you have an eStore account, press the "Password Reminder" link on the homepage of the submission site. If you do not have an ASM eStore account, you may create one by following the link of the homepage of the submission site.

Step Two: New Submission

Click the "New Submission" button to begin the abstract submission process.

Step Three: Affirmations

In order to proceed with the abstract submission, your agreements with the following statements are required.

• This abstract is based on results that have not, nor will not have been published in any journal before September 12, 2012 or presented at any national or international scientific conference prior to September 12, 2012.
• I understand that if this abstract is accepted I will comply with the rule (if applicable) that all presentations dealing with the isolation, purification, structure-activity relationships, mechanisms of action, in vivo/in vitro microbiology, PK/PD in animals and Pre-US IND or non-US early phase I studies must include meaningful data (e.g., producing organism, purification steps, physical-chemical characterization, structures, MICs, ED50s) to describe new compounds and their properties and that chemical structures of lead compounds will be included as part of my poster presentation.
• All authors are aware that their names appear on this abstract.
• I understand that if this abstract is withdrawn after June 1, 2012, one of the authors does not appear to present an accepted abstract, or a change in the presenting author is not communicated to ASM, a penalty may be incurred prohibiting the presenting author from presenting papers at ASM-sponsored meetings for a period of up to three years.
• I understand that if this abstract is accepted, ASM will hold the Copyright.

Step Four: Title

(included in the 2,150 character limit - spaces are not counted)

Please use a short and concise title that indicates the content of the abstract. Capitalize the first letter of each word except prepositions, articles and species names. Italicize scientific names of organisms by highlighting the term and clicking the online format tool bar for italics (example: "Staphylococcus aureus" will appear as Staphylococcus aureus). For therapeutic agents, only generic names may be used (NO trade names are permitted in abstract titles).

Step Five: Primary Author and CME Disclosures

(Authors, groups and institutions are included in the 2,150 character limit - spaces are not counted.)

Author's names will be displayed using first initial(s) and full last name. Presenting authors will be displayed in bold type (e.g. J. Smith, W. S. Brown, and R. A. Jones).

Each institution and author will be referenced with superscript numbers and include the institution’s, city, two-letter state/province abbreviation and country.

ASM will correspond with the presenting author only. Changes in the presenting author must be communicated to ASM. It is the responsibility of the presenting author to contact all co-authors with the disposition and scheduling of the abstract. The complete address of the presenting author is required in order to assure that correspondence arrives promptly and easily.

CME Disclosures: ASM’s Disclosure of Commercial Relationship(s) Policy

The France Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The France Foundation adheres to ACCME Essential Areas, Standards, and Policies regarding industry support of continuing medical education.  Disclosure of the planning committee, content reviewers, and faculty's commercial relationships will be made known at the activity.  Speakers are required to openly disclose any limitations of data and/or any discussion of any off-label, experimental, or investigational uses of drugs or devices in their presentations.

Please note important information regarding disclosing commercial relationships below:

• A commercial interest is defined as any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients.
• Relationships with governmental agencies (e.g., the NIH) and organizations that do not fit the above definition do not have to be disclosed. You do not have to disclose honoraria or fess you have received from a CME provider, even if those funds were provided through an educational grant from a commercial interest.
• Principle investigators must report research funding relationships below under "Research Contractor" even if those funds came to an institution.
• You must disclose financial relationships your spouse or life partner has with applicable manufacturers or provides marketing advice to applicable manufacturers.

If you have nothing to disclosure, please mark the box to the left of “I do not have any commercial relationships to disclose.”

If you have any relevant financial relationship(s) to disclose, type the company's name in the "Commercial Entity" box below and complete the additional information regarding the relationship and spouse or life partner relationships. Click on either “Save and Exit" when complete.

Please review your entry after you have saved your data to ensure accuracy. You may return only at this point to make changes to your disclosures.

 

Step Six: Co-authors, Group Additional Institutions

Click "Add a Group" or "Add an Author" for each co-author or group. Institutions and email addresses should be entered for each author. If you wish to add multiple institutions for an author, click the "ADD INSTITUTION" link below the respective author's name. For proper abbreviations of institutions; please refer to the Abbreviations List. Each institution and author will be referenced with superscript numbers and include the institution's, city, two-letter state abbreviation and country (DO NOT enter department, division, zip code, etc.).

Click the "Continue" button.

Step Seven: Category

For purposes or review and programming, abstracts are divided into topical categories. Selection of the most appropriate category is important as it determines who reviews your abstract.

Please carefully read the descriptions of the Topical Categories to ensure that your abstract fits the category you select. The ICAAC 2012 Program Committee reserves the right to reassign your abstract to a more appropriate category.

Step Eight: Keywords

Keywords are completely independent of each other and should be able to stand alone in the index. Words should be lowercase, except for genus names and proper nouns. For Greek characters, please spell out names. Organisms will be italicized in final publications. Enter up to three keywords.

Step Nine: Abstract Text

(included in the 2,150 character limit - spaces are not counted)

Your abstract may have up to 2,150 characters, which include title, authors, affiliations, abstract text, tables and graphics. Spaces are not counted. Do NOT include abstract title, authors or keywords in abstract text. Abstract text may be submitted using either of the following methods: Copy/paste or direct entry keystrokes. ASM also recommends that the abstract is divided into four (4) sections as follows: “Background”, “Methods”, “Results”, and “Conclusions.”

Tables:

• Once your abstract text is saved, you will be given the opportunity to add a graphic or table
• The recommended table size is 5 columns by 8 rows
• Count as 250 characters which are included in the 2,150 character limit
• File Upload: Submit your table with your uploaded abstract text. Use this method if you will need to edit and/or include special symbols
• Table Generator: Limit of 5 columns and 8 rows. Use tab to move between cells. (online instructions are available as you proceed)

• You may also upload your table as a graphic

Graphics:

• The recommended graphic size, to optimize resolution, is 2 inches wide by 3 inches tall and 300 DPI
• Count as 500 characters which are included in the 2,150 character limit
• Are submitted separately, subsequent to abstract text
• Will appear large on screen, but will be adapted for publication

Step Ten: Attestations and Recording Release

In order to proceed with the abstract submission, your agreements with the following statements are required.

• I disclosed to ASM all relevant financial relationships and I understand that ASM will disclose this information in print to participants of this activity.
• The content and/or presentation of the information with which I am involved will promote quality or improvements in health care and will not promote a specific proprietary business interest of a commercial interest. Content for this activity, including any presentation of therapeutic options, will be well- balanced, evidence-based and unbiased.
• I have not accepted any honoraria, additional payments or reimbursements beyond that which has been agreed upon directly with ASM.
• I understand that my presentation will be monitored to be sure that it is educational and not commercial in nature.
• If I am providing recommendations involving clinical medicine, they will be based on evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients. All scientific research referred to, reported or used in CME in support of justification of a patient care recommendation will confirm to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection and analysis.
• If I am discussing specific health care products or services, I will use generic names to the extent possible. If I need to use trade names, I will use trade names from several companies when available, and not just trade names from any single company.
• If I have been trained or utilized by a commercial entity or its agents as a speaker (e.g., speaker’s bureau) for any commercial interest, the promotional aspects of that presentation will not be included in this activity.
• If I am presenting research funded by a commercial company, the information presented will be based on generally accepted scientific principles and methods, and will not promote the commercial interest of the funding company.

Recording Release
As part of the educational mission of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), arrangements have been made for recording and producing DVD and Internet-based versions of speakers' presentations delivered at ICAAC 2012. Speaker presentations will be made available for sale on DVD to ICAAC attendees, ASM members and non-members. Please indicate your agreement to have your presentation recorded.

Step Twelve: Review Your Work

It is very important that you review your work to proof the accuracy of all elements of the submitted abstract including spelling and figures. Ensure that the character count is within the 2,150 character limit and that all submitted tables and graphics are completely submitted and appear in the abstract text to guarantee that the abstract submission process is complete.
