Symposia
Symposia consist of two conveners and three or four faculty who present lectures on designated topics (symposia with only four speakers may conclude with a 30-minute roundtable discussion).
Interactive Symposia
Faculty and/or Panelists of Interactive Symposia present studies and pose relevant questions to the audience. Using hand-held keypads, the audience responds to each question. The collective responses of the audience are displayed.
Meet-the-Experts
An extensive Q & A session with audience members follows each five-minute presentation by an expert.

As part of the educational mission of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), arrangements have been made for recording and producing DVD, and Internet-based versions of speakers' presentations delivered at the ICAAC 2012 to be held September 9-12, 2012, in San Francisco, CA. Speaker presentations will be made available for sale on DVD to ICAAC attendees, ASM members and non-members. You may indicate your consent in your letter of invitation.
All invited faculty must make their own registration, housing, and travel arrangements for the conference. Please click here to register and secure housing for the conference. Please note the following important deadlines.
Deadline: Friday, October 12, 2012
All invited faculty are reimbursed for travel expenses up to $1,400 for individuals residing in North America, and up to $2,100 for individuals residing outside of North America. Invited faculty may submit for reimbursement of registration fees. Invited faculty must submit for reimbursement of registration fees on their expense report.
ASM will honor expenses for travel (coach airfare, personal vehicle mileage to/from airport, tolls, parking, taxi or shuttle fees), hotel (room and tax), food (actual expenses as ASM does not set a per diem amount), and gratuities. Rental cars are not authorized. Please be sure to save all original itemized receipts as ASM cannot reimburse for expenses without itemized receipts. A reimbursement form will be emailed to you after the meeting. Please note that a copy of a charge slip is not considered adequate documentation for meals. The receipt detailing the food and beverage purchases is the correct receipt.
Note: Travel Reimbursement is not provided for Moderators of abstract slide sessions.
Advanced Presentation Submission
A submission site will be available for speakers to submit their presentation in advance of the meeting. The presentation will be tested by Freeman AV, the audio-visual provider, to make certain there are no compatibility issues. This will minimize any disruption during your presentation at the meeting. In August, you will receive an email from the audio-visual provider with instructions on how to submit your presentation in advance of the meeting.
You will still be required to bring a copy of your presentation to the meeting in the event that a back-up copy is needed.
Presentation Information
All session rooms will be networked onto the server from the Speaker Ready Room. This eliminates the need for the speaker to bring a laptop computer. Speakers will control the flow of their presentation using a mouse and confidence monitor provided at the podium. Please visit your session room at least one half hour before the session begins. Any questions about the set up or available equipment, should be brought to the attention of the AV technician in the session room.
Speaker Ready Room
Speakers are requested to drop off their presentation(s) in the Speaker Ready Room of the Moscone Center, at least 24 HOURS in advance of the session start time. Professional audiovisual consultants will be in the Speaker Ready Room for assistance. Computers in the Speaker Ready Room are configured exactly like the ones in the meeting rooms. From the Speaker Ready Room, the presentations will be loaded onto the server and then uploaded to the session room.
